Innocence

We live in a digital world—a world where there is a delicate balance between the effects of technology on ourselves as individuals and as humanity. How does television, music, social media, and other aspects of technology shape us into the people that we are? How are we constantly fed a certain narrative that doesn’t encourage us to intentionally reflect on what we believe and who we are? Fatigue magazine commissioned a piece based on the theme of innocence. The piece is based on the writing of Aldous Huxley, but more specifically the quote above.
As we navigate the digital world, we often turn towards the life line of technology, gathering our information from unreliable sources, absorbing unresearched views without question, and settling for turning away from our individuality. How does technology undo our capacity to think? In what ways do we mindlessly scroll without reflecting on what we are ingesting? This art piece a direct representation of how technology has become a part of who we are, encouraging us to truly reflect on the impacts that technology has on our innocence and individuality. I can’t help but love the beautiful irony of how this piece that questions our relationship with technology and provokes us to ponder on the impact of technology was entirely created using high tech equipment. The irony adds a whole other layer to the piece itself.
