This editorial design piece was born out of a desire to dive deeper into looking at our interior architecture through the lens of art, design, and science.

The social floor

The essence of the magazine was to look at something that we often initially visualize as cold and sterile and give it a level of warmth that would make it easier for people to identify with the problems and solutions found in the world of interior architecture.

Through a minimalist design, soft cool colours, and bold text, I wanted to invoke emotion in the reader as they connected art, design, and science both consciously and subconsciously. With every page, I craved to invite the reader into a deeper intimacy with how the three connect, recognizing how art, science, and design are interwoven throughout countless aspects of life.

Take note of how your eye continues to move around the page through the thoughtfully placed images, text, and titles. The bold titles create motion across the pages as your eye darts from one place to another. The strategic overlaying images and texts create a rich texture throughout the editorial that captivates emotion and encourages the reader to reflect deeper.

One interesting aspect of this magazine is that it was not simply printed on paper, but it was also posted digitally. I took this into consideration when creating the piece. I intentionally thought about the experience that the physical copy would provide compared to the experience of the digital copy.

Using a combination of text heavy pages, and pages that were nearly empty the reader can see how design truly impacts a page. Finding a balance between the text amounts allowed me to provoke the reader to continue going through the magazine, eager to see what the next page would bring.
